Blood donors

Greyhounds make brilliant blood donors for a number of reasons.

Greyhounds are used to being handled and of course they love attention and will lay or stand still whilst a needle is inserted into the jugular vain.

The whole process takes approximately 15 minutes depending on how fast that particular greyhounds bllod flows.

Greyhounds blood is universal and used in blood tranfusions of other breeds of dog, greyhounds have no congenitalblood disorders.

For a greyhound to give blood they should be

1. Aged between 1 - 8

2. They must weigh over 25 kgs

3. Must be in good health

4. Must not be on any medication

Greyhounds can give blood every 4 months, immediately after donating blood the body will start to replace what has been taken.
